Welcome back to my email series "✍️Calligraphy Money Myths" - 'cause it would be supercool to make extra income with calligraphy but... you're not sure YOU can actually do it? ....psst, catch up on Parts #1 & 2 right here And part of it might be because of this untruth right here. Myth #3: It takes YEARS of practice to get good at calligraphy... don't even bother showing your work before then.If you believe this, you're NOT ALONE. I wish I was making this up, but there are some calligraphers who insist that the only way to become a pro is years of disciplined practice with a historically-trained teacher *eyeroll* Please don't let this narrow way of thinking stop you from doing calligraphy YOUR way. Like I told you in Part #1 of this Series, I started my business just a few months after first learning calligraphy. And I've had lots of students do the same, because...
THE REALITY: If you practice in an intentional, focused, and FUN way... you can get good enough to start selling in MONTHS (not years). And once you start showing your calligraphy publicly, you'd be surprised at how many inquiries you get from just your friends and family! But what does "intentional practice" actually mean? Let's make it more concrete: ❌ WHAT NOT TO DO: Write rows and rows of mindless letters We all think that the key to improving is practicing MORE right? Because "Practice makes Perfect"? Actually no, it turns out that: 😳 Practice makes PERMANENT. So if you're just writing letters over and over, without stopping to adjust or understand, then:
✅ WHAT TO DO INSTEAD: Shorter practice sessions, focusing on the basic shapes, stopping often to evaluate + troubleshoot, and improving one thing at a time. I promise, you'll get better SO MUCH FASTER using this practice method. Don't worry, I'll show you how to do all of this in our upcoming "Newbie to Pro Calligrapher" Challenge 😉 So, your next step: ✍️ CLICK HERE TO JOIN THE FREE CHALLENGE ALREADY! Welcome back to "✍️Calligraphy Money Myths" - the Email Series for people with Pro Calligrapher dreams... but also serious doubts standing in the way. --(ICYMI: Read Part #1 here to see how bad my first paid job looked 😳) So one of those doubts might be: Myth #2: "Calligraphers only make a few bucks per envelope, right?" I mean, what's the use of putting your time and effort into a craft when you'll just end up making $15 custom quotes for randos on Etsy? And that's not an insult! That's...
Welcome to "✍️Pro Calligrapher Myths" - a 5-day Email Series for folks who are curious about calligraphy... but still feeling like "There's no way I can actually get good enough to make money, right?" Well, buckle in 'cause I'm gonna drop-kick that doubt right in the crotch🥋 (I actually did earn a black belt in Tae Kwon Do when I was 16 so... watch out 😂) Let's start with a huge, scary thought that holds SO many people back: The Myth: "You have to have talent to be a paid calligrapher" Now...
I sat down to create this weekly email, and something in my body just didn't feel right... I was all jittery, like there was too much on my plate and a few too many sips of coffee in my blood and my brain was jumping to something new every 26 seconds. So instead of forcing myself to write a chirpy message to you, I pulled out my Blackwell Oblique and a fresh sheet of Bristol paper and made this: Watch a calming video version here ... and now I'm almost in tears (??) because even after ten...
